Whole Breast Ultrasound

Whole Breast Demo Video:

We use Automated Whole Breast Ultrasound for Early Detection of Breast Cancers, and Diagnosis of Breast Problems

While Mammography is considered the Gold Standard in Breast Screening, it misses or overlooks roughly 10 percent of cancers, particularly in women with Dense Breasts.

For women who are "High Risk" or have Dense Breasts, we perform Automated 3D Breast Ultrasound, which provides a realistic view of the whole breast in multiple views.  We have been offering this innovative technology for the past 5 years.

During the exam you lie on a table, and a lotion is applied to your breast, and the scanner is placed firmly on the breast.  The pressure is less than that applied during a mammogram. The scan takes approximately 60 seconds, and typically 3-4 scans are done on each breast.  The entire exam usually takes 20-30 minutes.

Dr. Roseman is specially trained to interpret the 3-D images. The Whole Breast Ultrasound gives us additional information that complements what is seen on a mammogram.  However, it does not replace the mammogram.

We also utilize Automated Whole Breast Ultrasound to further investigate abnormal findings seen on a mammogram or breast exam, for planning breast surgery, and in planning for the "Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation" procedure.  This technology is particularly useful for following women receiving "neo-adjuvant" treatment for breast cancer prior to surgery, evaluating the response of the tumor to therapy.

Our Scanner is a Siemens/Accuson S2000 Automated Breast Volume Scanner.  All Insurance Plans cover this type of Ultrasound, and we will advise you if have any responsibility under your plan.
